Dovea Genetics Results from Tullamore Show 2023

Simmental

In the Simmental section, Curaheen Gunshot P (SI4147) progeny impressed in all categories.

• The National Intermediate Pedigree Registered Simmental Heifer Championship was won by Gerry Neenan with his exceptional Curaheen Gunshot P (SI4147) sired heifer.

• The National Senior Pedigree Registered Simmental Heifer Championship was again won by a Curaheen Gunshot P (SI4147) sired heifer, this time owned by Sean Callan.

• The Pedigree Registered Simmental Bull Calf born on/after 01.02.2023 went to Peter Fagan with yet another Curaheen Gunshot P (SI4147) sired calf.

Charolais

With the Charolais ring situated directly in front of the Dovea Genetics stand, we had the pleasure of having a great view of the day's activities.

• The Best Pedigree Registered Charolais Heifer Calf Born on/after 01.04.2023 was awarded to Ciaran O'Donnell with his Pottlereagh Mark (CH4160) calf.

• Dovea Genetics were proud to sponsor the Best Registered Charolais Bull Calf Born in November 2022 which was won by Liam & Seamus Egan with their maternal half brother to our very own Cloonglasna11 Socks ET (CH8971).

Belgian Blue

Dovea Genetics progeny saw a clean sweep in the Belgian Blue section with almost every class being won by a Dovea sired animal.

• Belgian Blue Female Born on/before 31.08.2021 with/without her own calf at foot was won by Tim O Donovan with his Imperial de l’Ecluse (S905) sired heifer.

• Irish Belgian Blue Breeding Heifer Born on/between 01.09.2020 and 31.08.2021 was won by Ivan Allen with yet another Imperial de l’Ecluse (S905) sired heifer. This heifer then went on to win Reserve Overall Female Belgian Blue Champion. In 2nd place was Solway View Rita owned by Derek Mc Kinney sired by Engin d’Hontoir (BB5355).

• Belgian Blue Female Born on/ between 01.09.2022 and 31.12.2022 was won by Tommy & Pauline Fitzgerald with their James Bond VD Jorchrishoeve (BB4396) sired heifer.

• Overall Female Champion was subsequently awarded to Tim O’Donovan with his heifer Don Oreo sired by Imperial de l’Ecluse (S905).

• Belgian Blue Junior Bull Born on/ between 01.09.2021 and 31.08.2022 was won by Billy Dunne with his Empire d’Ochain (EZN) sired bull.

• James McNally achieved 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Belgian Blue Bull Born on/ between 01.09.2022 and 31.12.2022 sired by Du Grand Bon Dieu (BB2247), Moderato de l’Empereur (BB6700) and Tattoo VD Sysloberg (BB6703) sired bulls.

• Belgian Blue Bull Born on/after 01.01.2023 was also awarded to James McNally with yet another Moderato de l’Empereur (BB6700) sired calf.

• Overall Male Champion was won by Billy Dunne with his Empire d’Ochain (EZN) sired bull.

• The overall Belgian Blue champion was subsequently won by Tim O’Donovan’s Imperial de l’ecluse (S905) heifer with reserve overall champion going to Billy Dunne’s Empire d’Ochain (EZN) sired bull.

Limousin

With a great display of Dovea Genetics Limousin progeny on show, Dovea Genetics were proud to sponsor the National Pedigree Registered Limousin Heifer born on/between 01.07.2021 and 31.12.2021 won by Brendan O'Shea with Templequain Selena.

Prizewinners in the Limousin category included animals sired by Ernevalley Madison (LM4745), Ewdenvale Ivor (LM2014) and Claddagh McCabe (LM6529).

Angus

Shane McGreal’s Bunlahy John G (BJG) sired heifer calf drew massive attention from onlookers as she won the Angus heifer calf class born in 2023.

Saler

• First Saler class of the day for new exhibitors was won by Ryan Gibbons with his Ulsan (SA2189) sired bull.

• The Best Pair of Salers Animals was won by John Burke wih his Montesqieu (SA6253) sired heifers.

Parthenaise

• The Pedigree Parthenaise Bull/Heifer Calf Born on/after 01.01.2023 class was won by Catriona Coyne with her Gainbarre (PT2165) sired bull calf.

• Pedigree Parthenaise Heifer born on/between 01.01.22 and 31.7.22 was won by Ronan Carroll with his Gainsbarre (PT2165) sired heifer along with 2nd place for another of Ronan’s Gainsbarre (PT2165) heifers.

• The Reserve Overall Parthenaise Champion was subsequently awarded to Ronan Carroll with his Gainsbarrre (PT2165) sired heifer.

Commercials

The commercial calf section saw a massive entry of Dovea Genetics sired calves on display with almost all classes being won by Dovea Genetics progeny.

• Best Belgian Blue X Calf Male was won by Shane Giltinane with his James Bond VD Jorchrishoeve (BB4396) bull calf.

• Best Belgian Blue X Calf Female was won by Linda Wharton with an Empire d’Ochain (EZN) sired heifer calf with Pearse McNamee’s Du Grand Bon Dieu (BB2247) sired heifer calf winning 2nd place, Linda Wharton’s Dartagnan Red (BB6942) heifer calf in 3rd and Jack O’Meara’s Negrita Du Lac (BB8019) in 4th.

• Best Limousin X Calf Female went to Mark Smith with his exceptional Claddagh McCabe (LM6529) sired heifer calf.

• Best Calf weighing up to 270kg was won by Pearse McNamee’s Solway View Dynamite (S1109) heifer calf followed by Shane McGreal’s Wilodge Joskins (LM2188) bull calf in 2nd place.

• Best Male Calf Weighing between 271kg - 350kg was awarded to Shane Giltinane’s James Bond VD Jorchrishoeve (BB4396) sired bull calf.

• Best Female Calf weighing 271kg - 330kg was won by Linda Wharton with their Dartagnan Red (BB6942) heifer calf.

• Best Female Calf Weighing 331kg - 395kg was won by Pearse McNamee with his exceptional Du Grand Bon Dieu (BB2247) sired heifer calf

• KEPAK Championship for the Beef Factory Animal of the Future was again won by Linda Wharton with their Empire d’Ochain (EZN) sired heifer calf

• Overall Commercial Calf Championship was subsequently awarded to Linda Wharton’s Empire d’Ochain (EZN) heifer calf with reserve champion going to Pearse McNamee’s Du Grand Bon Dieu (BB2247) heifer calf.

In the senior commercial section Dovea Genetics progeny also saw great success.

• Best Bullock with 2 or more Permanent Teeth was awarded to Aisling Burke with her Imperial de l’Ecluse (S905) sired bullock.

• Best Commercial Suckler Cow with Calf at foot was won by Frank Mulligan with his Du Grand Bon Dieu (BB2247) sired cow with her Simmental heifer calf at foot.

• The Reserve Overall Senior Commercial Champion was later awarded to Aisling Burke with her Imperial de l’Ecluse (S905) sired bullock.

Holstein Friesian

• Confined Pedigree Registered Holstein Friesian Heifer born in 2023 was won by Limetree Ina 532 sired by Youri (FR5722) and exhibited by Aisling Neville (also winner of highest EBI award).
