Dovea Genetics Continental Dairy Beef Sires Update

Dovea Genetics have an updated range of dairy beef sires from the Limousin, Charolais and Simmental breeds. We have carefully selected sires which are suitable for use on dairy cows whose genetics compliment dairy systems in terms of calving ease and gestation but don’t compromise on calf or carcass quality

The continental star of the dairy beef line up in Ireland is Limousin Sire, Ewdenvale Ivor (LM2014). Ivor the No.1 Limousin Sire on the ICBF DBI Active Bull list with a DBI OF €143. With a short gestation and with a calving difficulty of only 3.8% at 98% reliability, his calves are easily born. From birth his progeny develop rapidly and are noted for their exceptional carcass quality when finished for beef.

A new recruit to the Limousin team at Dovea is Carrowreagh Pablo (LM7077). With an exceptional easy calving pedigree he is expected to be easily calved with high calf quality. Pablo was purchased in association with the Irish Limousin Cattle Society for their Short Gestation Programme as he is a trait leader within the Limousin breed for calving traits and performance.

On the Charolais sires, the first crop of calves from Knockmahon Opel (CH6292) were born this spring and there is huge farmer satisfaction. Sired by the famous proven easy calving sire on dairy cows Bivouc, he is doing a very good job when crossed on dairy cows just like his sire. Farmers have indicated that Opel is easily calved so we highly recommend him for use on dairy cows for farmers looking to produce fast thriving profitable dairy beef calves.

Another option from our range of Charolais sire is Indou PP (CH6487). With a calving difficulty well below the breed average and a massive carcass weight of +38.50 Kgs, it is clear to see why he has a huge DBI of €106. An added bonus with Indou PP is he is a homozygous polled sire so his progeny will be polled

We have also added to our team of Simmental sires at Dovea. From an easy calving pedigree stack, Clonagh Longshot Fab P (SI7353) is one of our new sires who is suitable for use on dairy cows. With a carcass weight of +38.50 Kgs he is expected to produce exceptional progeny which will be met with premium prices. Longshot Fab also has a bonus of being Heterozygous polled so half of his progeny will be polled
