Clochrua Messi Makes His Mark as First Daughters Enter Production

Dovea Genetics is delighted to announce that (FR9358) Clochrua Messi’s first daughters have been milk recorded, marking an important milestone in the progression of one of Dovea’s most popular dairy sires.

Messi’s first Irish daughters are now completing their first lactations, and their early performance is reinforcing the qualities for which Messi was selected: exceptional milk components, high kilograms of solids and the ability to create productive, efficient cows for grass-based systems.

His first-lactation daughters’ predicted 305-day performance has reached 5,904kg of milk and 469kg of milk solids at 4.35% fat and 3.59% protein.

He also boasts a €14 Health Sub-Index and is a trait leader for bTB (Bovine Tuberculosis) and lameness resistance – consistently in the top 25% for both traits.

Backed By an Exceptional Cow Family

Messi is a son of Bawngarra Bród (FR6622) and is bred from Clochrua XDO Lucy 1552 EX90, a highly productive and durable cow that averaged approximately 675kg of milk solids across seven lactations.

Lucy’s performance demonstrates the consistency and longevity behind Messi’s pedigree. Her recorded lactations include several years producing more than 700kg of milk solids, with a peak 305-day performance of 773kg of solids from 9,057kg of milk.

The strength of the family extends into the previous generation. Messi’s granddam, Clochrua UPH Lucy 1346, also combined sustained production with outstanding component percentages, regularly recording close to or above 5% fat.

Dovea Genetics’ dairy team recently revisited the Clochrua herd to view progeny and speak to his breeder, Denis O’Leary, on how this sire and cow family have influenced his herd.
