1 in 105,000 Birth on the Williamson Family Farm

On the 29th of May, the Williamson family of Robert & Myrtle were met with great delight when their second calving Limousin cow calved successfully with triplet calves.

Nine months prior to calving, Dovea Genetics AI technician Declan Cusack performed the insemination using Ernevalley Madison (LM4745) semen, aiming to enhance the progeny's conformation and quality.

Remarkably, the insemination resulted in the birth of three live calves. The chance of a cow having triplet calves is quite rare, with odds generally estimated around 1 in 105,000.

Robert was first met with a heifer calf from the cow which he pulled with calving ropes followed by not one, but two bull calves which were also subsequently pulled from the cow.

Delighted with the result, both Robert and Myrtle have been assisting the cow with feeding the calves, offering bottles to the calves as required and taking every precaution by sterilising all equipment to ensure they maintain their health and growth.

Currently, at six weeks of age, the calves are thriving and have become cherished members of the farm. Their friendly disposition, fostered through early handling, has made them well-loved pets on the farm.
